With reference to Sir Matthew

Nathan's Despatch No. 21 of the 4th. February, 1907, which

was approved by Lord Elgin's telegram of the 12th. March,

1907, I have the honour to inform Your Lordship that the

balance of $6,814.20 now stands at credit of the fund

"Quarters for Nursing Sisters*, and to request your

authority to transfer this balance (which is at present

included in "Deposits not Available") to the revenue of

the Colony in the same manner as was done in the case of

the "Widows and Orphans Pension Fund". As in that case,

I

submit that no percentage on account of Military Contribu-

-tion becomes due on this sum since it is taken over by the

Government together with the liability involved by the

terms of transfer - a liability which the Revenue hence-

-forth incurs so long as it provides the Nurses in

accordance
